Raising a Reader

Raising a Reader supports families to build, practice, and grow reading routines at home!

This evidence-based program helps caring adults set their children up for success by creating shared reading routines, fostering social emotional learning, healthy family relationships and learning skills needed to thrive in school and beyond.

What Is Raising a Reader?

Raising A Reader (RAR) is a family engagement and early literacy program that is designed to improve the reading readiness skills of children birth through third grade. RAR promotes the literacy of children from birth through kindergarten by means of a weekly rotation of bags filled with books sent to children's homes, providing children and families access to over 100 books per rotation cycle. Book rotation is supplemented with parent training and materials promoting effective book sharing, family literacy habits, and family language skills. Families are linked with their local public library, and children receive a blue bag at the end of the program to encourage library visits.
