All children should read proficiently by the end of the third grade, at which point learning to read takes a back seat to reading to learn.  This goal is championed in the United States by the Campaign for Grade Level Reading.

Moore County, North Carolina has embraced this goal as energetically as any county in the nation.  Our schools and virtually every literacy and children’s charity in Moore County have combined forces to ensure that our children can read by the third grade.  Growing Moore Readers is the name of our broad county-wide coalition.  You can find a list of our coalition partners overleaf.

Growing Moore Readers unites our community to make every moment  a brain building moment for children in Moore County.  We work together to ensure that all children achieve that most important predictor of long-term academic and career success:  grade-level reading by the end of the third grade.

Growing Moore Readers and its partners support countless initiatives in Moore County, including The Dolly Parton Imagination Library, Vroom, Motheread® and Reading Feeding Frenzy.  Our efforts have received recognition and financial support on the state and federal levels.

We want you to know that Growing Moore Readers is redoubling its efforts.  You can learn more about this by reading our new strategic plan for Moore County, which is referred to as a Community Solutions Action Plan, or CSAP

CSAP is essential reading for all parents and educators in Moore County.  The CSAP explains the importance of grade-level reading.  It identifies all the programs in Moore County aimed at improving our children’s literacy.  Most importantly, it describes how we can all work together, marshalling our resources, to achieve our brain building and reading  goals.
